Aluminium and Aluminium Classification

Aluminium and Aluminium Classification
·         Aluminium has a density of approximately one-third as much as steel (7.83 g/cm3).
·         Such light weighted with the high strength
·         Suitable design and construction of strong structures
·         Useful material for space vehicles, aircraft and land- and water-borne vehicles.
·         Aluminium alloys are economical in some cases.
·         Useful in the automotive industry, aerospace industry, home appliances, machines, and structures, electronic equipment, cryogenic applications, marine applications and many more.
Classification of Aluminium Series:
·         1xxx: Unalloyed composition (pure)
Ø  Used in the electrical and chemical industries.

·         2xxx: Principal alloying element is copper and magnesium
Ø  Used in aircraft with high yield strength

·         3xxx: Principal alloying element is silicon with other alloying elements such as copper and magnesium.
Ø  Suitable for maximum castings designs.
Ø  Used alloys for architectural application

·         4xxx: Principal alloying element is silicon
Ø  Used in welding rods and brazing sheet

·         5xxx: Principal alloying element is magnesium
Ø  Used in boat parts and marine application

·         6xxx: Unused

·         7xxx: Principal alloying element is zinc with other alloying elements such as copper, magnesium, chromium, and zirconium.
Ø  Used in the aircraft industry
